  Utilities are different than other places, since you're forced to work with each other. I've lived in three separate cities now, and so I've had the pleasure of working with three different water utilities (Eclectic, AL and Notasulga, AL), and, while they may not have as many customers as Opelika, they were exceptional in their customer service, and always had enough people to help those that needed it.
  
  Opelika, on the other hand, seems to be overloading a single person with one task - ALL customer service. I almost don't even know why there's a front desk, as they've never been able to help the time I went there and many times I've called and left messages. I don't feel like the people there are bad at customer service, they just have zero help, when they need two or three people handling it.
  
  Long story short on all our issues is - we had to delay getting water in our name, due to some issues outside of our control. We kept calling and leaving messages about when to turn the water on and never got a reply. To their credit, we forgot to leave our phone number on the messages. To their fault, they couldn't look up our customer account and just get my phone number (they did say they called and left a message, but they must have called the wrong number - I'm very good at checking messages). Anyway, we're now paying for an extra 5 days of water service we didn't use/need.
  
  Again, I've worked with several utilities before - water and otherwise, and never had such a bad customer experience. That said, the building they're in is nice. Just whoever is over this place needs to look at hiring a few more people who can work with customers. I don't fault the two ladies doing the best they can here - they're actually doing a great job with what they have to work with, and I'm sure half the junk they have to deal with is bad accounts.
